HARMONI is the first-light, visible and near-IR integral field spectrograph for the ELT. It covers a large spectral range (450nm-2450nm) with 3500-18000 resolving powers. It benefits from a 70-80% Strehl ratio provided by its single-conjugate AO system. Its high-contrast imaging mode that is developed at IPAG enables exoplanets and disks observations using a series of pupil and image plane masks, and a dedicated nanometric-precision wavefront sensor. We will present in this talk the analysis and design process of the high-contrast subsystem - and the large team that it relies on - as well as performance estimates, and some science cases.
