For over a century, the origin of cosmic rays has puzzled high-energy astrophysicists. While supernova remnants are widely believed to be the primary sources of cosmic ray production in our galaxy, this theory is not without its challenges. Recently, ultra-high energy gamma-ray detections have emerged, prompting discussions that question the traditional SNR paradigm. In this talk, I will recap the historical context, highlight the latest observational findings that are reshaping our understanding, and discuss potential future directions.
