Astrostatistics in France

R is a free software environment for statistical computing and graphics. It compiles and runs on a wide variety of UNIX platforms (included in many distributions), Windows and MacOS. To download R, please choose your preferred CRAN mirror.

The Center for Astrostatistics at Penn State University gives an overview of capabilities of R. Astronomers will be interested to know that it can read FITS format.

R has very powerful graphical capabilities (see here and here).

You can easily find help, advices, packages from the web since the community is so large.
