Planetary Sciences

Research by the team PLANETO covers a vast area encompassing the study of planets, comets and meteorites in the solar system. It is done through the exploration of the solar system by spacecraft launched in particular by the European Space Agency (ESA) and NASA.

Researchers in the laboratory are involved in the preparation, operation, and interpretation of measurements made by the missions such as Cassini-Huygens mission to Saturn and its satellites, ROSETTA to comet Churyumov Gerasimenko, Mars Express and Venus Express to our planets neighbours ...

The means of research developed in the team include the observation of high planetary atmospheres including the Earth, the analysis of spatial data on the surfaces and sub-planetary surfaces (Mars, moon, Titan, ...), modeling and laboratory simulation of physical processes and chemical analysis of extraterrestrial material and design of space instrumentation.

The team leader is Eric Quirico
